Letter
from the 2010 Kuna Census Committee
How
does the census affect Kuna?
Since
1790, the U.S. Constitution, Article 1, section 2,
mandates that a census be taken at least every ten years.
The census establishes the number of U.S. representatives
for each state and the apportionment of tax money
collected. There
is approximately three trillion dollars that the U.S.
Government will distribute over the next ten years. Much
of this money goes for funding our schools, hospitals,
child care, senior centers, emergency food programs,
shelter care, public transportation and road construction.
In 2000, Kuna’s population was 5,382.
In 2010, the population will top 15,000. For
every resident not counted, the city will lose
approximately fourteen hundred dollars.
Getting
the word out
The
Mayor and City Council have appointed an eleven member
Complete Count Committee, which is partnering with the
U.S. Census Bureau, to insure a complete and accurate
count.
The CC
Committee is mobilizing community resources to determine
the best ways to locate and educate Kuna’s population.
The City’s bottom line is to insure that every person is
counted on April 1, 2010.
What
am I being asked to do?
In
March of 2010, each household will receive a census form
in the mail. The head of household (person who owns the
home or pays the rent) should complete the form. There are
ten questions: the number of persons in your home, phone
number, names of those living in this home, relationship
of each person to the head of household, gender, age, date
of birth, race/ethnicity and do you rent or own this home.
The form will take approximately ten minutes to complete.
Achieving
a complete and accurate 2010 Census count is our
responsibility! Don’t be left out!
